This part of the blog will be dedicated to reviewing recent movies, books, music, concerts, shows etc. that I have watched, read, listened, or attended. You will probably notice that my tastes are in many ways different from the main stream, but I'm also not ashamed to admit to a good piece of popular entertainment when I see it.
I suddenly realised that the title of this post might have led some of you to believe that I would be reviewing my recently married life. Oops... that is not what I am reviewing here (although of course I would give it 11 stars out of 10).
Instead I will be reviewing the World Premier of a short film by Michael (Luke's youngest brother) and Alina (my soon to be sister-in-law... in 15 days to be precise!). Undoubtedly they will one day be famous animators/cartoonists and lucky you can say that you had heard of them before they shot to stardom.
Okay naturally I'm going to be biased in this review because of who it was made by, but I will also be even more biased because it features Luke and myself as the main characters (oh and our house, a very important character). Luckily, over-acting was allowed in the short film, which I am of course a natural at. So sit back and enjoy... Just Married. *imaginary house lights dim as you reach to click the play button*....

The Verse: Mark 10:43-45
Mark 10:43-45"...whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
These words from Jesus are so radically different from today's attitude of "I need to love myself first" and "my happiness is the most important thing in the world."
The sermon we heard on Sunday at Church was by a guess speaker, Mark Walshe. His message was based on these verses and really highlighted that Christians are called servants. The term servant describes what our actions should be; serving. Furthermore we don't get to choose who we serve, it should be everyone.
The passage also refers to us as slaves which describes our position in relation to God. We are to be bond servants to our Lord.
To paraphrase Sunday's sermon: It is true that the cross has freed us from the penalty of sin and the condemnation of the law but we have also lost some of our freedom in the cross. We have lost the right to choose for ourselves. The life we now live is bound up in Christ and it is He who is Lord over us.
Galatians 2:20
"The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who love me and gave Himself for me."
However in saying this I can think of no other Master I would prefer to have. Looking at the last verse in the passage, Jesus Christ is our ultimate example of what it means to be servant.
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.
What an awesome Saviour we have - both Servant and King.

The Dress - I'm a Fan
So this space of my blog will be dedicated to all things fashion. As many of you know I have quite a liking for fashion, particularly vintage or vintage-inspired clothing. Okay, so "quite" might be a slight understatement. I love vintage fashion and I quite often feel I was born in the wrong decade by about 60 years or so, but hey what can you do? So the hope is on a regular basis I will update this part of the blog on recent or not so recent purchases from my closet.
Skirt - Bettie Page modcloth
So this is one of my most recent, and currently favourite purchases. I love the colour and the vintage look. Plus I can wear it to work and swing dancing. The weight also means it's good for winter/spring/autumn, and since summer doesn't really exist here in Wellington, it's a skirt for all seasons. On top of that, as far as I can tell the extra long length means I don't have to worry about having any "Marilyn Monroe" moments in the Wellington wind! But the best part of all is...
Pockets!
I'm sure the numerous fans will keep me cool during Wellington's "Summer"
Earrings: Diva
I've had quite a few comments on these earrings, and the best part of all is they were $8.00 and go with most outfits, hooray for versatility!
Shoes: Top Shop
And yes, for those observant people I did get a haircut recently. :)
Welcome
Hi and welcome to my blog. So it is official, I have joined the blog band wagon! So from now on I will be posting blogs, hopefully quite frequently, instead of sending emails. I know many of you were great fans of my emails (although I always thought one of the main reasons was that you liked the novelty of receiving emails that were something other than spam) but never fear - I'm sure this blog will prove to be just as useful in the realms of procrastination as the emails were, maybe even more so, as I'm hoping to add more pretty pictures for you to admire.
Actually the idea of including more pictures was one of the main reasons I decided to make the shift from email to blog. After all if a picture says a thousand words, then with just five photos I can say five thousand words!
So why the name "Vintage Pearl", some of you might be wondering - and if you weren't you're probably wondering that now. Well firstly, "vintage" because of my increasing love of everything vintage: clothes, music, movies, books etc. And "pearl" because that is what my Chinese name means: 美珍 (Mei Zhen). Also as a reference to the bible verse Matthew 13:45-46 when Jesus says:
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it."
Or as Luke put it: "Well when you think about it, the Bible is about as vintage as you can get!" - I love my husband.
So watch this space, and hopefully this will be the start of something beautiful!
